What is an Official Translation in Greece?
An official (certified) translation is a translation certified as accurate and complete by an authorized person. In Greece, the terms 'official translation', 'certified translation', 'sworn translation', and 'legal translation' are all equivalent — they describe a translation with legally recognized validity.
Who can certify a translation in Greece?
In Greece, official translations can be provided by: graduates of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting at the Ionian University who are members of PEEMPIP; lawyers who are members of a Greek bar association and certify their language proficiency; translators listed in the Registry of Certified Translators of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; embassies and consulates of the document's country of origin; and notaries, for documents required for notarial deeds.
What documents are required for an official translation?
An official translation must be accompanied by the original document, a notarized copy, or a photocopy of the original. If the document was issued by a foreign public authority, it generally requires an Apostille stamp before translation.
